WHAT IS THE ACADEMY OF INTEGRATIVE HEALTH AND MEDICINE?
“An interprofessional community of healthcare providers, researchers and academics, united by the common goal of advancing the knowledge, practice and policies that champion treating the “whole” person — mind, body, spirit, community and planet.”
“Driven to integrate care disciplines for improving patient, provider and practice outcomes, AIHM is a welcome home to all proponents of Whole Health.”
“AIHM represents the bridging of once disparate silos across health and medicine…a call to action to guide and accelerate that change–to transform the way we think about health and healthcare by seeing and treating the patient as a whole.

WHY JOIN THE AIHM?
“As an AIHM member, you join the leading interprofessional organization for traditional, complementary and integrative health and medicine globally. [The membership includes] medical doctors, holistic nurses, chiropractors, naturopathic doctors, acupuncturists, ayurvedic practitioners, anthroposophic clinicians, holistic dentists, functional medicine clinicians, nutritionists, yoga therapists, direct-entry midwives, massage therapists, mental health professionals, allied health providers, physician assistants, physical therapists, conventionally Western trained clinicians who want to learn more, and [practitioners of] many other health professions.” –From www.aihm.org
You do not need to be an AIHM member to participate in most events organized by either the chapters or the central organization. However, joining opens up many educational and scholarship opportunities, resources, and events exclusive to members. As noted on the AIHM website, by becoming a member “you gain access to a worldwide network of professionals all looking to share their knowledge and experiences, empowering you to stay in touch with the latest developments in integrative health and medicine.”

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN INTEGRATIVE CLEVELAND AND THE CLEVELAND AIHM CHAPTER?
Integrative Cleveland is an online resource and community available to any health professional involved or interested in integrative, functional, or holistic medicine. The site was developed and is managed by members of the Cleveland chapter of the AIHM, a global association for integrative medicine practitioners.
While the activities and events of the Cleveland AIHM chapter are routinely announced and promoted on the Integrative Cleveland website and serve as a major focus of the site’s attention, and while the scope and purposes of the chapter and the website overlap significantly, Integrative Cleveland itself is an independent venture that is neither overseen by nor affiliated with the AIHM.
JOINING THE CLEVELAND CHAPTER MAILING LIST
The Cleveland AIHM chapter sends out a free monthly e-newsletter (now via Integrative Cleveland) with information about speaker presentations, panel discussions, local and global networking events, and other announcements of interest to the local integrative community. With the launch of IntegrativeCleveland.com, the newsletter going forward will also announce select events of interest that get listed on the website but don’t fall under the purview of the Cleveland chapter.
Our chapter events are all free, and you do not need to be an AIHM member to attend them. By subscribing to the newsletter, you’ll receive timely notice of events you might wish to attend, get direct registration links as well as access to event recordings, and otherwise stay abreast of what’s going on in our region. Click here to join the mailing list.
JOINING INTEGRATIVE CLEVELAND
You don’t need to be an AIHM member to join our online community, nor do you need to become an Integrative Cleveland member to access the public pages of the website. However, a professional IC membership (only $20 a year) confers many benefits not otherwise available, including the ability to engage other members in online exchanges and forums, and a listing on our member page that will be visible to anyone seeking integrative medicine services in our region. Click here to become a member.
