About Us – The Cleveland Chapter Team

Peter Geller, L.Ac., has been practicing acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine since 1998.  He earned his M.S. degree in Traditional Oriental Medicine from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine (NY) and has since worked in a variety of conventional and holistic health care settings, both private and hospital-based, including the Cleveland Clinic’s Center for Integrative Medicine and the Northeast Ohio Institute of Functional Medicine.  Areas of special interest include women’s health and psychological and emotional issues.

Prior to beginning his medical studies, he completed a master’s degree in science, medical, and environmental journalism at New York University and then spent more than a decade as a reporter covering environmental and general news–first as a freelance contributor to The New York Times and then as a Plain Dealer staff reporter here in Cleveland.

Long committed to enhancing public awareness of holistic medicine and to bridging the gap between mainstream and traditional approaches through writing and public speaking, Peter joined the AIHM in 2019 and helped launch the newly revived Cleveland chapter the next year.

When not seeing patients or pondering ways to advance the integrative medicine model and grow the integrative community, Peter indulges his lifelong passions for hiking and for practicing and teaching t’ai chi ch’uan, the Chinese internal exercise system noted for promoting health, relaxation, and many other benefits. 

Dr. Amy Sapola is a Clinical Pharmacist and Yoga and Mindfulness Instructor at University Hospitals Connor Whole Health, an Institute for Functional Medicine Certified Practitioner (IFMCP), and a Wellness Coach with a B.S. in Nutrition.

Dr. Sapola has completed a 2-year Fellowship with honors in Integrative Medicine from the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine and has trained in Culinary Coaching and Culinary Medicine.

She has worked in rural healthcare, helping to start hospital and school gardens and helping the local food shelf move to a produce-forward design. She later became the Director of “Farmacy” at the Chef’s Garden in Huron, OH, where she worked extensively with “food as medicine” and culinary medicine, as well as regenerative farming and soil health.

In her current role at University Hospitals, Dr. Sapola specializes in Integrative Medicine and Women’s Health. Additionally, she works with healthcare providers, community members, and schools, teaching yoga and mindfulness, food as medicine, and culinary medicine.

As a mother of two young children, avid gardener, passionate cook, and long-time yogi, Amy has an integrative approach to health and wellness, personally and professionally.
